Teeanage Wasteland
Introduction
Teenage Wasteland is a photographic story series that delves into the themes of neo-noir, the American road movie, and symbolism. This photograph showcases my interest in storytelling. The story was inspired by the famous road movie “Paris, Texas”. The visual language employed in this series is characterized by claustrophobic and distorted imagery, creating a sense of insecure. The series aims to challenge the viewer's perceptions of reality and question the concept of "truth" as it is presented to us. The aesthetic was inspired by the American road movies of the 1980s, utilizing raw materials such as wood, hand-carry luggage, cigarettes, and the solitary figures that typified the genre. This photograph tries to create an immersive and thought-provoking viewing experience for the audience.
In today's world, photography has become an increasingly individual act, with our interests shifting more towards ourselves and our daily lives. This can be attributed to the popularization and digitization of photography. However, instead of capturing real-life situations and settings, I tend to choose to rebuild cinematic scenes and create movie characters in my photo projects. My preference is to capture “contemporary reality” which led to my enthusiastic interest in the cinema of the 1980s.
