MONKA 00:03 AM
Introduction
This campaign for KANGOL, titled MONKA 00:03 AM, is set in Monka (艋舺)—one of Taiwan’s oldest and most culturally layered urban districts. Once a thriving commercial and spiritual hub during the Japanese colonial era, Bangka played a central role in Taiwan’s early urban modernization. Temples, theaters, teahouses, and arcades grew alongside systems of colonial governance, forming a unique city texture where the sacred and the everyday intertwined.
The campaign blends KANGOL’s streetwear language with Bangka’s historical and contemporary urban landscape. Weathered Japanese-era architecture, traditional shopfronts, incense-filled temples, and motorbike-riding youth are brought into the same frame, creating a visual tension where past and present overlap. The phrase “MONKA 00:03 AM” is not merely a slogan—it’s a response to a city whose spirit resists stillness, where memory and momentum continue to co-exist.
Blurring the lines between fashion photography and cultural fieldwork, this campaign positions KANGOL as more than a style brand—it becomes a medium that traverses memory and movement, connecting global street aesthetics with the textured heritage of a city that never truly sleeps.
