Before the Rain (it was a sunny day)
Introduction
This video centers on a man smoking and quietly singing in a narrow Tokyo alleyway, capturing a fleeting sense of melancholy and resignation just before the rain falls. The city of Tokyo appears both intimate and distant, with the interplay of sunlight and humidity becoming a vessel for emotional expression.
Extending beyond the moving image, the project also transforms photographic stills into an experimental form of travel guide—reframing urban street photography through the lens of tourism. By reappropriating the visual language of traditional photography and the conventions of travel imagery, the work questions the representability of "landscape" and "everyday life." It explores how the image, in a contemporary context, shifts from documentation toward poetic intervention and re-coding.
